Five-Year Threat Forecast for the U.S.

A new intelligence assessment says the terrorism threat to the United States over the next five years will be driven by instability in the Middle East and Africa, challenges to border security and increasing Internet savvy.

The Associated Press’ Eileen Sullivan says the report, obtained by AP, also found that chemical biological, radiological and nuclear attacks are considered the most dangerous threats that could be carried out against the US, but also the most unlikely.

“Intelligence officials also predict that in the next five years, terrorists will try to conduct a destructive biological attack,” Sullivan says. “Officials are concerned about the possibility of infections to thousands of US citizens, overwhelming regional health care systems.”
